ADNOC’s Nasr offshore field integrates AI into operations

ADNOC has equipped the Nasr offshore field for remote operation using the RoboWell system in partnership with AIQ.

This system enables management of field operations from Abu Dhabi, exemplifying ADNOC’s strategy to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and model future marine operations.

During a media visit to the Nasr Field Operations Centre, CEO Taiba Al Hashemi announced that ADNOC has tested the remote operation system in 10 oil wells, with plans to extend it to 300 wells by the end of 2024.

She highlighted that the centre can control and monitor production operations from Abu Dhabi, about 130 kilometres from the field.

The system monitors production flow, temperature, and data on surface and subsurface facilities, improving operational efficiency by 5 percent.

Al Hashemi stated that integrating AI in Nasr Field enhances efficiency and reduces carbon emissions by minimising personnel travel to the field.

The field is designed to be fully digital, employing advanced AI solutions to boost safety and operational efficiency while lowering carbon emissions.

The Nasr Field Operations Live Centre uses advanced technologies, including live monitoring, smart reports, virtual tours, and device connectivity, facilitating quick and reliable decision-making.

This shift allows personnel to work from Abu Dhabi, creating a safer environment and enabling close collaboration between operations, planning, projects, and maintenance teams.

Al Hashemi emphasised that operating Nasr Field remotely marks a significant step in ADNOC’s automation journey.

ADNOC is transforming into the most AI-based energy company globally, integrating AI across its operations to reduce emissions and meet the growing demand for low-carbon energy.

By leveraging AI and the latest technologies, ADNOC manages Nasr Field operations from Abu Dhabi, enhancing safety and operational efficiency.

Nasr Field represents the future of ADNOC’s offshore operations, showcasing the benefits of AI for full automation. For 60 years, ADNOC Offshore has harnessed Abu Dhabi’s energy resources, becoming one of the largest and least carbon-intensive energy producers.

Al Hashemi highlighted ADNOC’s strategy to produce more energy with fewer emissions.

In 2023, ADNOC achieved a commercial value of Dh1.84 billion ($500 million) through AI solutions and plans to expand their use.

Additionally, ADNOC is investing Dh13.95 billion ($3.8 billion) in a strategic project to supply offshore production operations with sustainable electricity by 2030, reducing the environmental impact of its operations by up to 50 percent.
